Grid export limits are becoming a real constraint for solar system owners — especially in utility territories that cap feed-in power or require zero-export configurations. Without a smart meter, a Growatt hybrid inverter can't measure what's flowing in and out of the grid in real time, which means it can't throttle solar production to stay within export limits. The SM-US-200 fills that gap.
Using RS485 direct communication to the inverter, the SM-US-200 feeds real-time grid import/export data that the inverter uses to manage self-consumption, limit export, and optimize time-of-use battery dispatch. The two included CTs (current transformers) clamp onto the main service conductors without interrupting power — no rewiring, no shutdown of the home. ANSI C12.20 Class 1.0 accuracy meets utility-grade metering standards.
This is an accessory component for existing Growatt solar and storage inverter installations. It does not function as a standalone device. Confirm your Growatt inverter model supports the SM-US-200 before ordering — contact pre-sale support if you need help confirming compatibility.

Do I need a smart meter if I don't have export limits?
Not strictly required for backup-only use cases. However, the smart meter enables self-consumption optimization and time-of-use battery dispatch — features that meaningfully improve the economics of a solar-plus-storage system even without export restrictions. Most installers recommend including it.
Does installation require shutting off power?
The CTs clamp onto existing conductors without cutting them, so main power interruption is not required for CT installation itself. The RS485 wiring to the inverter should be done with the inverter powered down. Consult your installer for the specific sequence.
Is it compatible with all Growatt inverters?
It's designed for Growatt solar and storage inverters with RS485 communication support. Confirm your specific inverter model's compatibility before ordering — contact CPD pre-sale support or check the Growatt datasheet.

Returns & warranty
We accept returns within 30 days of delivery. Items must be unused and in original packaging. A 25% restocking fee applies to all returns.
