⚠ Before You Buy
Accessory component — part of a larger off-grid system, not a standalone purchase. Confirm compatibility with your inverter and battery bank before ordering.

The Classic 250 is the step up when your PV array exceeds what the Classic 150 can handle. The key difference is input voltage: 250V VOC versus 150V. That higher ceiling allows longer string runs and higher-voltage panel configurations — particularly relevant when cold-weather Voc calculations push 4-panel strings of modern 40V+ panels over 150V. If your string Voc at minimum temperature exceeds 150V, the Classic 250 is the correct controller.

The tradeoff is output current: the Classic 250 delivers 63A versus the Classic 150's 96A. At 48V, that's approximately 3kW of charging power versus 4.6kW. For larger arrays at higher voltage, two Classic 250s in parallel is a common configuration to recover that charging current. Same Canbus integration with the MidNite Rosie, same ETL listing, same US engineering and support as the Classic 150 — just sized for higher-voltage arrays.

Use our Build Your System guide to confirm which Classic is right for your array configuration before ordering.

Classic 150 vs Classic 250 — which do I need?
If your string Voc (adjusted for minimum installation temperature) stays under 150V, the Classic 150 is the better choice — it delivers more output current (96A vs 63A). If your strings exceed 150V, the Classic 250 is required. Standard 60-cell panels at ~40V Voc can typically string 3 in series (120V) within the Classic 150 limit. 4-panel strings of modern wattages often exceed 150V and require the Classic 250.

Can two Classic 250s be used in parallel?
Yes — multiple Classic controllers can be stacked in parallel via Canbus to increase total charging current. Each additional Classic 250 adds 63A of charging capacity at 48V.

What is the maximum charging power at 48V?
63A × 48V = approximately 3,024W per controller. Two in parallel delivers approximately 6kW of charging power into a 48V battery bank.

How does the Classic 250 compare to the Hawke's Bay?
The Hawke's Bay is a higher-capacity charge controller (120A, 600V VOC) for even larger arrays. The Classic 250 is the mid-range option between the Classic 150 (150V, 96A) and the Hawke's Bay (600V, 120A). Choose based on your array's string voltage and desired charging current.
