Midnite Solar MNHAWKE’S BAY120-PW
⚠ Before You Buy
This is a pre-wired MPPT charge controller system — not a complete solar kit with panels. Confirm compatibility with your inverter and battery bank before ordering.
The Classic 150 handles up to 150V VOC PV input — adequate for most residential string configurations. When your array outgrows it — longer string runs, higher-voltage panels, or arrays over roughly 7–8kW — the Hawke's Bay is the upgrade path. At 120A output into a 48V battery bank, it handles up to approximately 6kW of DC solar input continuously, with a 185–585V MPPT window that accommodates higher-voltage string configurations the Classic 150 can't reach.
The pre-wired design matters in larger installations where charge controller wiring is time-consuming and error-prone. The built-in MNSPD-600 surge protection device, MNGP2 graphical display with 380 days of data logging, and Canbus communication for native integration with the MidNite Rosie inverter are all included. Optional Arc Fault and Ground Fault protection modules are available.
This is a charge controller system, not a complete solar kit. It pairs with the MidNite Rosie inverter and a separate battery bank and solar array. Use our Build Your System guide to confirm the right configuration before ordering.

When should I use the Hawke's Bay instead of the Classic 150?
When your PV array exceeds the Classic 150's 150V VOC input limit, or when you need more than ~80A of charge current into a 48V battery bank. The Hawke's Bay handles 185–585V VOC and 120A output — appropriate for larger arrays with higher-voltage string configurations.
Does it work with non-MidNite inverters?
Yes — the Hawke's Bay functions as a standalone MPPT charge controller with any inverter. Canbus system integration is specific to MidNite's Rosie ecosystem; with other inverters each component monitors independently.
What does "automatic derating above 77°F" mean?
At temperatures above 25°C (77°F), the controller automatically reduces output current to protect internal components from heat stress. In hot climates or poorly ventilated installations, plan for some output reduction during peak summer conditions.
Can I add Arc Fault protection to this unit?
Yes — optional plug-in Arc Fault and Ground Fault protection modules are available separately and install directly into the Hawke's Bay enclosure for enhanced safety and code compliance.
